MONOETHYLENE GLYCOL (MEG)
Chemical Formula : C2H6O2
CAS Registry Number : 107-21-1

DIETTHYLENE GLYCOL (DEG)
Chemical Formula : C4H10O2
CAS Registry Number : 114-46-6
Ethylene glycol is an organic compound widely used as an automotive antifreeze and a precursor to polymers. In its pure form, it is an odorless, colorless, syrupy, sweet-tasting liquid. Ethylene glycol is toxic, and ingestion can result in death.
Production
Ethylene glycol is produced from ethylene (ethene), via the intermediate ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide reacts with water to produce ethylene glycol according to the chemical equation:
C2H4O + H2O → HOCH2CH2OH
This reaction can be catalyzed by either acids or bases, or can occur at neutral pH under elevated temperatures. The highest yields of ethylene glycol occur at acidic or neutral pH with a large excess of water. Under these conditions, ethylene glycol yields of 90% can be achieved. The major byproducts are the ethylene glycol oligomers diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, and tetraethylene glycol.

Applications
Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) can be used for applications that require chemical intermediates for resins, solvent couplers, freezing point depression, solvents, humectants and chemical intermediates. These applications are vital to the manufacture of a wide range of products, including resins; deicing fluids; heat transfer fluids; automotive antifreeze and coolants; water-based adhesives, latex paints and asphalt emulsions; electrolytic capacitors; textile fibers; paper and leather.

Diethylene glycol (DEG) is an organic compound with the formula (HOCH2CH2)2O. It is a colorless, practically odorless, poisonous, viscous, and hygroscopic liquid with a sweetish taste. It is miscible in water, alcohol, ether, acetone and ethylene glycol.

Production
DEG is produced by the partial hydrolysis of ethylene oxide. Depending on the conditions, varying amounts of DEG and related glycols are produced. The resulting product is two ethylene glycol molecules joined by an ether bond.

Applications

DEG is used as a building block in organic synthesis, e.g. of morpholine and 1,4-dioxane. It is a solvent for nitrocellulose, resins, dyes, oils, and other organic compounds. It is a humectant for tobacco, cork, printing ink, and glue.  It is also a component brake fluid, lubricants, wallpaper strippers, artificial fog solutions, and heating/cooking fuel. In personal care products (e.g. skin cream and lotions, deodorants) DEG is often replaced by selected diethylene glycol ethers. A dilute solution of diethylene glycol can also be used at a coolant; however, ethylene glycol is much more commonly used.

Facilities

To meet the developed industrial needs, the company currently has a total workforce of around 50 staff servicing costumers all over Indonesia including Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

In order to cater to such a wide geographical coverage, we have a few sub-dealers and logistic company to supply and deliver products to costumers outside the Jawa island.

Healty,Safety,Security, and Environment (HSSE)

The facilities and infrastructures owned by the company have been able to meet the stringent requirements by the principals and the costumers. For example, all our fleets are equipped with HSSE (Health,Safety,Security, and Environment) standar requirements.

Samchem Prasandha has a long-standing HSSE commitment to the highest standarts for the health and safety of our employees, costumers, and principals as well as to the protections of the environment in the communities in which we live and work.
